Edwin Arroyo enjoying red-hot stretch at Triple-A: 38 total bases in 8 G!

Edwin Arroyo is catching fire at Triple-A.

Following his four-hit night on Thursday, the Reds' No. 6 prospect delivered an encore performance in Louisville’s 10-8 victory Saturday night over Nashville at Slugger Field. Arroyo went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored -- his second four-hit game in the past three days.

It’s a feat that continues what’s been a remarkable stretch at the dish for Arroyo. Over his past 22 games, the Arecibo, Puerto Rico, native is now 37 for his last 92 (.402 average) with 10 multihit games. His 37 hits during this stretch are second most among all Triple-A hitters, trailing only Henry Bolte (A's No. 5).

Perhaps what stands out most from the recent offensive barrage is the reemergence of Arroyo’s power numbers. In 2024, he suffered a torn labrum that forced him to miss the entire season. Although he posted a strong 80.5 percent contact rate over 120 games upon his return last year, he slugged just .371, the lowest mark of his affiliate ball career.

During the hot streak, though, the 5-foot-11, 173-pound infielder has logged 14 extra-base hits and posted a .696 slugging percentage. The run has helped him raise his OPS on the year from .764 to 1.003, which now ranks sixth in the International League and is on pace for career high.

Since the calendar flipped to May, Arroyo has been arguably the most dangerous hitter in Minor League Baseball. His 38 total bases trails only Bolte, as he's slashing an otherworldly .514/.550/1.027. His 15 runs during that stretch leads the Minors as well.

For the season, he's hitting .317 with a 1.014 OPS with runners in scoring position. A year ago, he'd posted just a .681 OPS in those same situations.

Taken in the second round of the Draft by the Mariners in 2021, Cincinnati picked Arroyo up in a five-player deal that sent Luis Castillo the other way at the 2022 Trade Deadline.

Arroyo was long a member of MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list as his pro career got underway, checking in at No. 92 just a season ago. If the power and run production numbers continue to trend up, the 22-year-old may again have a compelling case to re-join those ranks.
