Toronto Blue Jays & RHP Dustin McGowan Agree to Contract Extension

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed RHP DUSTIN MCGOWAN to a two year contract extension for the 2013 & 2014 seasons with a club option for 2015.  The contract will see him be paid $1.5 million in each of the 2013 & 2014 seasons with the option year worth $4.0 million (US).  As part of his commitment to the organization and the City of Toronto, Dustin has agreed to make a donation to the JAYS CARE FOUNDATION as part of the contract.

McGOWAN, 30, appeared in five games for Toronto in 2011 making four starts and posted an 0-2 record with a 6.43 ERA.  His September 6th appearance last season marked his first appearance with Toronto since July 8, 2008 as he underwent shoulder surgeries in 2008 and 2010.  

In 2000 the Blue Jays drafted McGowan in the first round of the First Year Player Draft, 33rd overall.  Dustin is the longest continuous tenured player in the organization.  The 6-3, 232 lb. native of Savannah, Georgia has a career record of 20-24 in 80 games, 60 starts for Toronto with a 4.80 ERA.  In 2008 he made a career high 27 starts posting a 12-10 record with a 4.08 ERA with two complete games and one shutout.
