Blue Jays sign José Berríos

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with RHP José Berríos on a seven-year contract (US $131,000,000).

Berríos, 27, ranked fifth in the AL with a 3.52 ERA last season while finishing second with 192.0 innings pitched. The native of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, was selected 32nd overall by the Twins in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and was traded from Minnesota to Toronto at the 2021 Trade Deadline on July 30. The 6-0, 205 lb. right-hander went 5-4 in his 12 starts as a Blue Jay and finished the campaign with a career-high 204 strikeouts. Over six Major League seasons, the two-time All-Star has gone 60-47 with a 3.96 ERA in 148 games while recording 857 strikeouts across 851.2 innings of work.
