CINCINNATI -- Sunday’s game at Great American Ball Park featured a bizarre interlude heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. As Diamondbacks shortstop jogged out of the dugout to take his position, he snapped the ribbon at the finish line for the Reds’ mascot race taking place in front of the D-backs' dugout.

“I didn't plan it," Perdomo said. "I just saw the finish right there, and I just [had to] take my ‘W’... I was ready for them to get close, and get my ‘W’. No chance they're gonna get the ‘W’ over me.”

Perdomo tried to shake hands with the mascots, but they declined. He got his revenge in the next inning.

After a fielding error by Nathaniel Lowe allowed Ildemaro Vargas to reach with one out in the sixth, Perdomo then belted a Tejay Antone fastball a Statcast-projected 400 feet to right for a 3-2 D-backs lead. The Diamondbacks would go on to win the game, 5-3.
