Amiel Sawdaye joined the Diamondbacks as Senior Vice President & Assistant General Manager in 2016. In his role, Sawdaye oversees the teamās amateur and international scouting and assists GM Mike Hazen on all facets of baseball operations.
Under his guidance, the teamās drafts since 2017 have yielded current Major Leaguers Corbin Carroll, Alek Thomas, Pavin Smith and Daulton Varsho. Entering 2023, the teamās farm system was ranked second by ESPN and fourth by MLB Pipeline and The Athletic, and the D-backs were one of two teams (along with the Orioles) to boast three prospects in the Top 15 of MLB Pipelineās Top 100 Prospects. Each year since 2020, the D-backs have had at least four Top 100 prospects on the preseason list.
Prior to coming to the desert, Sawdaye spent 15 seasons (2002-16) with the Boston Red Sox, where he was a part of three world championship teams in 2004, ā07 and ā13. As Vice President of Amateur and International Scouting (2010-16), the Red Sox drafts produced Matt Barnes, Andrew Benintendi, Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley, Travis Shaw and Brandon Workman.
The Baltimore native graduated from the University of Maryland in 1999 with a degree in decisions information systems.
Sawdaye is active with the Williams Syndrome Association.
He and his wife, Danielle, reside in Scottsdale with their two daughters, Lily and Mia, and son, Max.
