Dodgers announce itinerary for community caravan

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers will kick off their 10th annual community caravan on Monday, expanding it to cover five days, with club alumni appearing around the Southland Monday through Thursday and current team members on Friday.

The lineup of current team members includes Luis Cruz, A.J. Ellis, Mark Ellis, Andre Ethier, Tim Federowicz, Adrian Gonzalez, Javy Guerra, Matt Guerrier, Kenley Jansen, Clayton Kershaw, Brandon League, Don Mattingly, Nick Punto, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Skip Schumaker and Shawn Tolleson.

On Friday, this group will make stops at the Santee Educational Complex in Los Angeles from 9:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. PT; Inner-City Arts in Los Angeles from 11:50 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.; Tobinworld in Glendale from 1:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and the Dodgers Dreamfield at the LA Boys and Girls Club in Los Angeles from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

The caravan, titled "Pitching in the Community, presented by jcpenney," is a partnership between the Dodgers and jcpenney to celebrate service to Los Angeles with community-based organizations.

The first day of the caravan features a stop at City Year Day of Service at Belmont High School in Los Angeles. Hall of Fame Manager Tommy Lasorda will lead a group that includes Billy Ashley, Bobby Castillo, Al "The Bull" Ferrara, Lee Lacy, Tim Leary, Joe Moeller, Wes Parker, Dennis Powell and Derrel Thomas.

On Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the caravan visits Southeast YMCA in Huntington Park. Ashley, Ferrara, Eric Karros, Lacy, Leary, Moeller, Powell, Bill Russell, Thomas and Fernando Valenzuela will participate.

The caravan stops at Project Youth Green/Youth Speak Collective in Pacoima on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon. Ron Cey, Ferrara, Jim Gott, Lacy, Leary, Parker, Powell, Russell and Steve Yeager will attend with Spanish-language broadcaster Pepe Yñiguez.

On Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the caravan will stop at Playworks in Inglewood. Ferrara, "Sweet" Lou Johnson, Lacy, Kenny Landreaux, Moeller, Powell, Thomas and Yeager will be on hand.
