Dodgers bring reliever Baez back from DL

MLB.com

MIAMI -- Dodgers right-handed reliever Pedro Baez was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's 7-1 win over the Marlins, while lefty Ian Thomas was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Baez capped a 16-strikeout night for Dodgers pitchers by striking out the side in the ninth inning at Marlins Park. Before going on the DL with a right pectoral strain, Baez last appeared on May 13 against the Marlins. In 15 appearances this season, he's 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA in 15 1/3 innings and hasn't allowed a run in his last 8 1/3 frames.

"It's good to have him back for sure," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said before Friday's series opener. "He was a guy that was really giving us a number of different things. He was a guy that we could use late or a guy that we could bridge to get to the back end [of the bullpen]. We used him in a number of different roles and he did a good job in all of them."

The 27-year-old Baez notched three scoreless innings in three rehab outings with Oklahoma City.

Meanwhile, Thomas (0-1, 12.00 ERA) made one appearance for the Dodgers this season and allowed four earned runs in three innings.
