Indians acquire RHP Brewer from Arizona; designate LHP Barnes for assignment

The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League 40-man roster:

Acquired RHP CHARLES BREWER from the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations.

Designated LHP SCOTT BARNES for assignment.

Brewer, 26, split the 2014 season between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno, going a combined 11-12 w/a 4.46 ERA in 29 starts (169.2IP, 182H, 84ER, 48BB, 138K). He led all Diamondback Minor League pitchers in innings, was 2nd in wins and 3rd in strikeouts. The Scottsdale, AZ native pitched his entire professional career with D-Backs, posting a career Minor League mark of 50-42 with a 4.09 ERA in 137 games/124 starts (721.0IP, 759H, 328ER, 628K) after his 12th-round selection in 2009 out of UCLA. He became the first Arizona-born player to make his MLB debut with the Diamondbacks in 2013, appearing in 4 games in relief for the Snakes in June. He was recently designated for assignment on November 20.

The current 40-man roster still stands at 40 players.
