Indians invite LHP Michael Roth to Major League camp

RHP Tyler Cloyd released

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent LHP MICHAEL ROTH to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League camp.

Roth, 24, is entering just his fourth professional season as he was a Texas League postseason and midseason All-Star selection for Double-A Arkansas in 2014, going 11-7 with a 2.62 ERA in 22 starts (140.2IP, 121H, 41ER, 53BB, 79K). He made 7 relief appearances over three stints for the Los Angeles Angels last season and was later outrighted for a second time and declared a free agent on November 20.

The Greer, SC native was a member of the University of South Carolina baseball team that made three straight trips to the College World Series finals from 2010-12, winning titles in 2010 and 2011. He was selected, but did not sign, by Cleveland in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft (31st round) before signing with the LA Angels (9th round, 2012) the following year.

Also today, the Cleveland Indians released RHP TYLER CLOYD from his Minor League contract of November 3. Cloyd is now pursuing a professional opportunity in Korea.
