Lindor raking with promotion, hits first Double-A homer

Since the Indians promoted him to Double-A Akron following the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game last week, shortstop Francisco Lindor has done nothing but hit. In his first 10 games at Double-A, Lindor is hitting .441 with a 1.225 OPS.

The only thing Lindor -- ranked by MLB.com as the Indians' No. 1 prospect -- was missing was a home run. Thursday night against Richmond, he took care of that. In the third inning of Akron's 5-1 win, Lindor sent a deep fly ball over the fence in right-center field.

"It was fun, running around the bases after I hit the home run," Lindor told MiLB.com. "I got a good pitch and I drove it, and I felt good. I knew it was gone as soon as I hit it."

Lindor received the silent treatment when he got back to the Aeros' dugout, but that didn't stop him from pantomiming congratulations with his teammates.

If he keeps hitting like he has been since arriving in Akron, Lindor won't have to pretend much longer. Still just 19 years old, Lindor has made quick work of the Minor Leagues since the Indians made him the eighth overall pick of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. In 93 games between Class A Advanced Carolina and Akron, Lindor is hitting .319 with a .396 on-base percentage this season.

Lindor is considered to be the best defensive shortstop in the Minor Leagues and could push his way to Cleveland as soon as next year.
