Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros and Josh Reddick of the Oakland A's named the American League Co-Players of the Week

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve and Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick have been named the American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending May 3rd. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

Altuve batted .467 (14-for-30) with seven runs scored, five doubles, one home run, eight RBI, and two stolen bases, while Reddick batted .478 (11-for-23) with eight runs scored, three home runs, 12 RBI, and one double. This marks Altuve's first weekly honor and Reddick's third, last winning with the A's on September 28, 2014. Jose finished the week tied for first in the AL in hits (14) and doubles (5), tied for second in total bases (22) and runs scored, and fourth in batting average and RBI. Josh, a Savannah, Georgia native, completed the period tied for first in RBI and runs scored, third in slugging percentage (.913), and tied for third in batting average, home runs, hits (11), and total bases (21).

Following Altuve's fourth three-hit game of the season in a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Thursday night, the Venezuelan native amassed multi-hit games in eight straight contests. This streak is the third longest of its kind in Astros history behind Billy Hatcher (1987) and Jesus Alou (1969), who each posted nine-game runs. The two-time All-Star was also the hero in Thursday night's win, delivering a game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th. This marked his first career walk-off hit and the first walk-off win of the season for the Astros. The right-handed-hitting second baseman stretched his hitting streak to 11 on Saturday night with a three-run homer in a convincing 11-4 win over Houston's AL West rival Seattle Mariners. Led by Altuve's offensive heroics, the Astros, who are off to their best start in Club history, did not lose during the week, extending their win streak to 10. Josh Reddick was equally impressive for the Athletics, entering play today on an 11-game hitting streak, which stretches back to April 22nd. Only his teammate Billy Butler has achieved a longer hitting streak so far this season. Over the weekend, the seven-year veteran saw his average jump from .367 to .391 on the back of a 5-for-9 two-day stretch with a pair of home runs and six RBI over Texas Rangers pitching. With teammate Ben Zobrist on the DL for the time being, Reddick has helped carry the offense, notching a team-high 20 RBI over the early course of the 2015 season.

Other noteworthy performances last week included Altuve's teammate Evan Gattis (.318, 5 HR, 12 RBI, 7 R); Reddick's teammate Sonny Gray (2-0, 1.23 ERA, 14.2 IP, 16 SO); Nelson Cruz (.429, 4 HR, 5 RBI, 6 R) of the Seattle Mariners; David Price (2-0, 2.35 ERA, 1 CG, 15.1 IP) of the Detroit Tigers; and Andrew Miller (4 G, 3 SV, 0.00 ERA, 7 SO) of the New York Yankees.
