Umpires for 2015 League Championship Series Announced
Ted Barrett and John Hirschbeck to Serve as LCS Crew Chiefs
Major League Baseball today announced the umpires who have been assigned to the 2015 League Championship Series. The LCS crew chiefs will be 19-year Major League Umpire Ted Barrett and 32-plus-year veteran John Hirschbeck, both of whom served in that capacity for this Postseason's Wild Card Games presented by Budweiser.
Hirschbeck will lead the American League Championship Series crew, marking his 19th career Postseason assignment, including his fifth LCS. His crew will consist of Laz Diaz, Dan Iassogna, regular season crew chief Jeff Nelson, Tony Randazzo and Hunter Wendelstedt. Randazzo will be the home plate umpire in Game One. Hirschbeck, Nelson, Reynolds and Wendelstedt worked the NL Wild Card Game this Postseason. Major League Umpire Jim Reynolds will serve as the ALCS Replay Official in Games One and Two, with the assistance of fellow Umpire Mike Estabrook, before Randazzo shifts into that role beginning in Game Three. Iassogna was a Replay Official for a Wild Card Game this Postseason. The ALCS, beginning tonight between the Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays, will be exclusively broadcast by FOX Sports and FS1.
Barrett will oversee the crew assigned to the National League Championship Series. This is his 21st career Postseason assignment, including his seventh LCS. Barrett will work alongside Eric Cooper, Rob Drake, Paul Emmel, Tim Timmons and regular season crew chief Bill Miller. Drake will call balls and strikes in Game One of the NLCS. Barrett, Cooper, Emmel and Miller officiated the AL Wild Card Game this Postseason. Umpire Mark Wegner will be the NLCS Replay Official, with the assistance of Estabrook, in Games One and Two before joining the on-field crew for Game Three, when Drake will serve in the Replay capacity. Wegner was a Replay Official for a Wild Card Game this Postseason. The NLCS between the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs will begin on Saturday and will be exclusively televised by TBS.
