Winners of 2015 Esurance MLB Awards announced

The winners of the inaugural Esurance MLB Awards were revealed tonight during the 2015 Esurance MLB Awards Show, hosted by Brian Kenny and Dan Plesac, on MLB Network and MLB.com. Bryce Harper and Jake Arrieta each won two awards with Harper bringing home top honors as Best Major Leaguer and Best Everyday Player, while Arrieta was recognized as Best Starting Pitcher and Best Breakout Player.

Celebrity baseball fans were recognized in multiple categories. After his stirring performance for 10 different teams on a single day in Spring Training, Will Ferrell earned the award for Best Celebrity Fan. Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, along with basketball legend and Dodgers co-owner Magic Johnson, picked up the Award for Best Video Board Moment for their Dodger Stadium announcement of Vin Scully returning to the broadcast booth in 2016. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld, the noted Mets fan, won the award for Best Social Media Post for his tweet on Trade Deadline day about the Mets acquiring Yoenis Cespedes.

 "I would like to say thanks to all of the fans for voting me Pitcher of the Year for the Esurance (MLB) Award," said Arrieta. "It means a tremendous amount to me, my family, to the entire city of Chicago and the entire Cubs organization. It is something very special that I really appreciate."

"I voted for Bryce Harper as Best Major Leaguer based upon his remarkable 2015 season," said MLB Network Analyst Dan O'Dowd. "His OPS was 100 points higher than the next closest player. Though all the players nominated had great seasons, for me none approached the consistent dominance Bryce demonstrated in 2015."

The 2015 Esurance MLB Awards represents a comprehensive award-balloting process based on nearly two months of voting, encompassing the entire awards season. The five different groups of voters - fans, members of the baseball media, club front-office personnel, former MLB players and Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) members - each count for 20% of the winner selection. Winners in each category will receive the trophy known as the GIBBY (Greatness in Baseball Yearly). The Awards are not limited by league affiliation and take Postseason play into consideration.

The awards for Best Manager and Best Executive will be announced and presented in-person to the winners on MLB Network and MLB.com from the 2015 Winter Meetings in Nashville on Tuesday, December 8.

Earlier this season, Esurance entered into a multi-year partnership with MLB to become the exclusive auto insurance partner for Major League Baseball as well as the title sponsor of the first-ever all-digital Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot and the Esurance MLB All-Star Game Final Vote, each of which set all-time records for fan voting.
