Padres unveil two new home jerseys for 2016 All-Star season

The San Diego Padres this evening unveiled two new home jerseys: a home white to commemorate the 2016 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Diego, and a brown and yellow jersey, which will be worn for every Friday home game. The unveiling event, attended by Padres outfielder Wil Myers and Padres pitcher James Shields, took place at Petco Park's Park at the Park as part of the club's offseason social media summit for fans and Season Ticket Members.

2016 will be the first time in MLB history that a host team will wear a commemorative jersey for its All-Star season. Punctuated by navy and yellow, the commemorative home white uniform brings together two colors that have held significant roles in Padres uniforms throughout the organization's history, but never as a combination. Padres yellow was an official color from 1969-1984, while navy blue has been a staple since it was introduced to the color scheme in 1991. The corresponding navy hat with a two-toned yellow and white "SD" is a nod to the two-toned orange and yellow "SD" hat first worn by the Padres in 1991.

The commemorative white jersey, which features a 2016 All-Star Game logo patch on the left sleeve, will only be worn for the All-Star season. The choice to highlight "SD" rather than "Padres" on the chest of the home white for the first time in the team's history was made to emphasize the importance of San Diego as host city for the 2016 All-Star Game.

Also unveiled tonight was a new brown and yellow jersey, which will be worn every Friday at Petco Park. Brown and yellow, a classic Padres color combination from 1969-1984, returns with a modernized look. This jersey is an updated version of the brown that was worn as the predominant color in the team's road jersey from 1976 until 1984, the year the Padres made their first trip to the World Series. Across the chest, the jersey features a new yellow "Padres" wordmark, based off the club's original 1969 wordmark. Yellow piping outlines the neck and the sleeves. The look is topped off with an updated version of the brown and yellow bell hat worn by the Padres from 1972-1984.

Tonight's uniform unveilings followed an earlier event on the flight deck of the USS Theodore Roosevelt. There, the Padres debuted the club's new Navy digital camouflage jerseys, which will be worn for Sunday home games in 2016. The four-color (deck gray, haze gray, black and Navy blue) design is modeled after the Navy Working Uniform Type 1, which sailors affectionately refer to as their "blueberries." The jersey features the updated Padres wordmark across the chest and an American flag patch on the left sleeve. The Padres will wear gray pants at home on Sundays to match the lighter gray in the digital pattern. The look will be topped off with the traditional Padres blue hat with a white "SD".

The Marine digital camouflage jerseys Padres players have worn during Military Sundays since 2011 will be worn twice during the 2016 season - on U.S. Marine Corps Appreciation Day and on U.S. Army Appreciation Day. It will be updated with the new Padres wordmark. Moving forward, the Marine and Navy digital camouflage jerseys both will remain in the Sunday jersey rotation, alternating each year which will be worn most often.

The Padres' current blue alternate jersey, added to the uniform rotation in 2012, as well as the road gray, which the team has worn since 2011, both will remain part of the uniform repertoire. Blue will move to a road-only alternate, and both will feature the All-Star Game logo patch on the left sleeve.
