Clubs unanimously ratify new collective bargaining agreement

Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced today that the owners of the Major League Clubs have unanimously ratified the new five-year labor contract with the Major League Baseball Players Association. The agreement was jointly announced with the MLBPA on November 22nd.

The new agreement will allow play to continue uninterrupted through the 2016 season. By the end of the new contract, baseball will have gone 21 years without a strike or a lockout. This agreement continues the ongoing process of economic reform and preserves the longest period of labor peace the sport has had since the inception of the collective bargaining relationship.

"I am very pleased that the Clubs have given their unanimous support of the new agreement," said Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. "Our sport has taken many significant strides over the past decade, and this agreement will allow us to continue to grow the game."
