Cincinnati's Mesoraco disciplined

Catcher Devin Mesoraco of the Cincinnati Reds has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for making contact with Umpire Chad Fairchild during the top of the third inning of Monday night's game against the San Diego Padres at Great American Ball Park.  Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Unless appealed, Mesoraco is scheduled to begin serving his suspension tonight, when the Reds are to continue their series with the Padres.  If appealed, Mesoraco's suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
