D-backs recall Zeke Spruill, designate Josh Wilson

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) recalled right-handed pitcher Zeke Spruill (@zekespruill) from Triple-A Reno and designated infielder Josh Wilson for assignment, according to D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Spruill, 23, went to go 3-6 with a 3.12 ERA (31 ER in 89.1 IP) in 14 starts with Double-A Mobile and Reno this season. He has combined to throw 17.0 scoreless innings over his last 2 starts, including a 7-hit shutout on June 9 vs. Colorado Springs.

Spruill has gone 41-39 with a 3.52 ERA (262 ER in 669.1 IP), 1 save and 9 complete games in 118 games (109 starts) in 6 Minor League seasons with Atlanta (2008-12) and Arizona (2013). He was acquired from the Braves on Jan. 24 with infielders Martin Prado, Nick Ahmed and Brandon Drury and right-hander Randall Delgado for outfielder Justin Upton and infielder Chris Johnson.

Spruill, who has no Major League experience, will wear No. 52.

Wilson, 32, hit .200 (12-for-60) with 1 double, 1 triple, 1 home run and 4 RBI in 30 games for the D-backs. Over parts of 6 seasons in the Majors since 2005, he has hit .225 (223-for-990) with 47 doubles, 7 triples, 10 homers and 71 RBI in 386 games for the D-backs (2009, 2011, 2013), Marlins (2005), Nationals (2007), Rays (2007), Padres (2009), Mariners (2009-10) and Brewers (2011).
