DOMINICAN REPUBLIC NORTH RBI WINS JUNIOR BASEBALL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE 2015 RBI WORLD SERIES
Dominican Republic North RBI, out of Santo Domingo, has won the Junior Baseball Division Championship of the 2015 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series, earning their seventh overall RBI World Series championship and fourth Junior Baseball Division Championship in six years (2010-2012, 2015). Dominican Republic North triumphed over Houston Astros RBI by the score of 12-7 in a seven-inning contest today at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Dominican Republic North RBI finished the tournament with a 5-1 record.
Dominican Republic shortstop Widimer Joaquin was named the Most Valuable Player of the Junior Baseball Division Championship Game after driving in three runs on three hits, including a third inning double to break a 3-3 tie that would give the Dominican Republic a lead they would not relinquish. Joaquin, who also scored three times and stole a base in the championship game, finished the tournament with a .350 batting average (one home run, one double and five singles), .985 OPS, seven runs scored and seven RBIs.
MIAMI MARLINS RBI WINS SENIOR BASEBALL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
OF THE 2015 RBI WORLD SERIES
Miami Marlins RBI has won the Senior Baseball Division Championship of the 2015 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series, earning their fourth overall RBI World Series Baseball Championship and their first in the Senior Division since 2004. This also marks the second consecutive baseball championship for the Miami Marlins RBI program - they won the Junior Baseball Division Championship at the 2014 RBI World Series.
Miami Marlins RBI defeated Harrisburg RBI by the score of 5-4 at Globe Life Park in Arlington and finished the tournament with a 5-1 record.
Miami shortstop Bryan Lavastida, 17, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Senior Baseball Division Championship Game. He finished tied with a game-high of two base hits, an RBI, a stolen base and one run scored, including the decisive run for Miami. He finished the RBI World Series with a .450 batting average (within the top-5 in the tournament), 1.172 OPS (also within the top-5 in the tournament), six RBIs and seven runs scored.
The RBI World Series, which was hosted by the Rangers for the second consecutive year, is the international baseball and softball championship tournament of the RBI program, the Major League Baseball youth initiative designed to provide young people from underserved and diverse communities with the opportunity to play baseball and softball, encourage academic success, and teach the value of teamwork and other important life lessons.
