42: Ashley Chavez

Jackie Robinson is one of the greatest, most admirable players to ever play the game. I'm sure every article, news story, tweet and blog today will remark on his journey. He was a pioneer, not just for African Americans, but all races. He stood for humanity, and he had more bravery than anyone who I will ever meet. He never gave up, changing the world in doing so. Robinson is an American hero, and I'm glad we honor him every year as such.

We all feel the same towards Mr. Robinson here at the Cave. We love and are in awe of everything that he accomplished with the sport we care for most. We also look forward to celebrating his day. Not only does it represent the start of the season, but justice, and how our country has so positively changed from that time.

To me, Jackie Robinson Day has one more mini meaning. His day is also my birthday. Every year, I always, and will always, shout a Happy Jackie Robinson Day when I get my first birthday wishes. Tomorrow, I will be turning 25. What better way to celebrate than to be here at the Cave during this great day? It's going to be tough wearing that Dodger blue, as a Giants fan, but I will do it with pride for Mr. Jackie Robinson!
