Rosales clears waivers, will be released

DETROIT -- Utility infielder Adam Rosales, who was designated for assignment by the Rangers last Wednesday, cleared waivers and declined an outright assignment. The club will request unconditional release waivers.

Rosales was designated for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for left-hander Derek Holland, who came off the 60-day disabled list and made his first start since tearing a muscle in his shoulder in April.

The infielder, an eight-year veteran, had played in 128 games with Texas since 2013. A lifetime .227/.294/.342 hitter, Rosales also made two pitching appearances this season -- most recently on July 28.

Rookie Hanser Alberto, who on Wednesday was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, can play at third, second and at shortstop.

Worth noting

• Designated hitter Prince Fielder and shortstop Elvis Andrus were not in Sunday's starting lineup ahead of Monday's off-day. Manager Jeff Banister said it could be both players' final day off this season as the Rangers continue their playoff push.

• Carlos Corporan (thumb) traveled with the club to Detroit and is slightly ahead of Robinson Chirinos (shoulder) in his recovery process, but neither catcher's return is imminent, Banister said. Both are already eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list.
