After being pulled, Felix ejected for first time in career

SEATTLE -- Felix Hernandez picked up his first win in more than a month, but also earned the first ejection of his Major League career in Monday's 12-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Hernandez's anger boiled over in the seventh inning after allowing a bases-loaded, two-out double to Rays catcher Ryan Hanigan, though he became upset earlier in the at-bat when home plate umpire Mark Ripperger called a borderline pitch a ball.

After the double, Hernandez was subsequently taken out of the game, but then began yelling and gesturing at Ripperger as he walked off the mound. Before the ace could reach the dugout, Ripperger threw him out of the game.

"I'm sure he got his money's worth," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. "I didn't understand everything he said … I kind of knew it was going to happen because he was not happy. … There was quite a few pitches that he was upset about."

Hanigan's double drove in three runs and ruined The King's shutout.

Despite the wild ending, Hernandez (4-1, 3.03 ERA) gave up four runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.

"I was asking about the Miami Heat score," Hernandez quipped. "He didn't even know."
