Stats of the Day: Pujols, Trout power Angels

Here are five interesting items from around the big leagues on Tuesday:

• Cast your Esurance Final Vote

• Albert Pujols and Mike Trout homered in the Angels' 10-2 win over the Rockies, marking the sixth time they've gone deep in the same game this season. Pujols' homer was his 26th of the season and the 546th of his career, leaving him two shy of tying Mike Schmidt for 15th all-time. Trout's long ball was his 22nd of the season and the 120th of his career. He joins Eddie Mathews and Jose Canseco as the third player in history to have twice hit at least 22 homers before the All-Star break as of their age-23 season.

• Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto hurled a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and a walk in a 5-0 win against Washington. Last season, Cueto pitched a three-hit shutout with 12 K's against the Pirates. The Final Vote candidate is one of four Reds pitchers since 1914 to have multiple shutouts that featured three hits or fewer allowed and at least 10 strikeouts. Jim Maloney had six, Johnny Vander Meer had four and Bruce Berenyi had two.

• A.J. Pierzynski homered and singled twice to help spur the Braves to a 4-3 win over the Brewers. The Atlanta backstop has collected at least three hits in three straight games, and he is the first Braves catcher to do this since Joe Torre in 1964. Tuesday's game was Pierzynski's 1,819th as a catcher, moving him past Lance Parrish and into sole possession of 11th most in history. Benito Santiago ranks 10th with 1,917.

• In the Indians' 2-0 win over the Astros, Corey Kluber fanned seven to assume the American League lead in strikeouts, with his 148 edging Chris Sale's 147. Kluber's 148 K's are the most for a Cleveland pitcher before the All-Star break since Gaylord Perry had 150 in 1973.

• Josh Donaldson's solo homer in the fourth inning proved to the difference in the Blue Jays' 2-1 victory over the White Sox. Toronto improved to 2-19 when scoring no more than two runs. Fortunately for Blue Jays, they've been held to two runs or fewer less than any team in the big leagues.

Milestone watch for Wednesday

• Pujols needs one home run to set a new Angels record for the most before the All-Star break. He is tied with Garret Anderson, who belted 26 in 2000.

• Francisco Rodriguez needs one save to tie Jeff Reardon (367) for eighth all-time in big league history.
