Angels acquire INF Gordon Beckham from White Sox

ANAHEIM, CA - The Angels acquired infielder Gordon Beckham from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for a Player to be Named Later (PTBNL) or cash considerations. Today's announcement was made by General Manager Jerry Dipoto.
Beckham, 27, has appeared in 101 games for the White Sox this year, batting .221 (86/390) with 24
doubles, seven home runs and 36 RBI. The Atlanta, GA native has posted a .309 clip (30/107) vs. left-handed pitching in 2014 which ranks fifth overall by a major league second baseman. Beckham also ranks in the top 10 among A.L. second basemen in several offensive categories including home runs (7, 5th), doubles (24, T6th), hits (86, 9th), runs (43, 9th) and RBI (36, 9th).
Beckham was originally drafted by the White Sox in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2008 amateur draft out of the University of Georgia. In six seasons with Chicago he hit .244 (637/2607) with 146 doubles, four triples, 61 home runs and 276 RBI. Beckham is one of two White Sox (also, Alexei Ramirez) to have appeared in 100 games in each of the last six seasons. He owns two of the top three best single season fielding percentages by a second baseman in White Sox history (.9899 in 2012 - 2nd & .9889 in 2011 - 3rd). In 2013, was Chicago's recipient of the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award.
