Angels acquire outfielder Shane Victorino from Red Sox

Club sends INF Josh Rutledge to Boston

ANAHEIM, CA - The Angels Monday acquired OF Shane Victorino and cash considerations from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for INF Josh Rutledge. Today's announcement was made by General Manager Bill Stoneman

Victorino, 34, is currently in his 12th Major League season and was in his third campaign with the Red Sox. He is a veteran of six postseasons, has played in three World Series and was a member of the 2008 Phillies and 2013 Red Sox World Series Champion clubs. Additionally, he is a two-time All-Star (2009 & 2011) and has won four Rawlings Gold Glove Awards (2008-10, 2013). He is one of eight Major League players who has appeared in the postseason in six of the last eight years.

In 12 Major League seasons with San Diego (2003), Philadelphia (2005-12), Los Angeles Dodgers (2012) and Boston (2013-15), he batted .276 (1256/4546) with 108 home runs, 486 RBI and 229 stolen bases. Against left-handed pitching, he owns a .304 career average (403/1324) with 88 doubles, 48 home runs and 163 RBI and has batted above .300 against lefties each of the last seven seasons. This year, Victorino owns a .343 average (12/35) vs. left-handed pitching.

The Wailuku, HI native is batting .245 (23/94) with two doubles, one home run and four RBI in 33 games overall this season for Boston and has not committed an error since August 14, 2013, spanning 785.2 defensive innings.

Victorino has appeared in 60 career postseason games and has reached base safely in 45 of them. Among actives, he ranks second to Matt Holliday (66) with 59 career postseason games in the outfield. During the Red Sox 2013 World Series title run, he drove in the game-winning run in all three clinching games. He has a .257 career postseason average (58/226) with 11 doubles, seven home runs and 42 RBI.

Rutledge, 26, was in his first season with the Angels after five years with the Colorado Rockies organization. The second baseman hit .274 (85/310) with 19 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 32 RBI in 78 games for Triple-A Salt Lake this season. He owns a .259 (226/871) career average with 19 homers and 89 RBI across parts of three Major League seasons, all with Colorado. He was acquired by the Angels on Dec. 11, 2014 from the Rockies in exchange for RHP Jairo Diaz.
