Angels add outfield vet Nava on 1-year deal
The Angels added outfield depth on Wednesday by agreeing to a one-year deal with Daniel Nava.
Nava, 32, is a .265/.358/.383 career hitter in five Major League seasons with the Red Sox and Rays. Nava, whose deal is worth $1.375 million, could platoon with the right-handed-hitting Craig Gentry in left field if the Angels don't make any other additions at that position.
Nava's best season came in 2013, when he totaled career highs across the board while hitting .303/.385/.445 with 12 homers and 66 RBIs in 134 games with the World Series-champion Red Sox. Nava's production fell slightly in 2014 before he struggled mightily last season, hitting just .194 in 60 games with Boston and Tampa Bay.
The switch-hitting Nava is a Redwood City, Calif., native who was undrafted out of Santa Clara University. He originally signed with the Chico Outlaws of the independent Golden Baseball League before having his contract purchased by the Red Sox in January 2008.
