ANAHEIM -- Second-round pick Jahmai Jones and third-round pick Grayson Long were on the field Tuesday afternoon, sporting Angels shirts and taking in batting practice shortly after signing their first professional contracts.

Jones, a center fielder out of Wesleyan High School in Norcross, Ga., signed for $1.1 million, according to MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis, well above the slot value of $880,000. Long, a right-handed pitcher out of Texas A&M University, received the slot value of $548,600.

The club has not confirmed the bonuses.

Jones will report to the Angels' rookie-league affiliate in Arizona on Monday, while Long will go to rookie-level Orem.

The Angels also signed 16th-round pick Nathaniel Bertness, 19th-round pick Aaron Cox, 21st-round pick Michael Pierson, 22nd-round pick Ronald Glenn, 23rd-round pick Tim Arakawa, 27th-round pick Sam Koenig, 29th-round pick Cody Pope and 34th-round pick Nick Flair on Tuesday.

They've signed 25 of their 40 picks thus far.

Worth noting
• Tests on Collin Cowgill's injured right wrist revealed a joint sprain. The Angels' outfielder received a cortisone shot and will be out of action for a week, at which point he'll be re-evaluated. Cowgill has been on the disabled list since May 28.

• Reliever Mike Morin, nursing a left oblique strain since May 24, is slated to throw a bullpen session at the Coliseum in Oakland on Friday. After that, the 24-year-old right-hander will probably go out on a rehab assignment.

Matt Joyce returned to the lineup on Tuesday, starting against righty Jeremy Hellickson after getting benched against a righty for only the second time all season on Sunday. Manager Mike Scioscia was seemingly going to give Efren Navarro opportunities in left field, but he said "the long-term needs for what Matt brings are still evident to our club."
