Dorn's family celebrates his first career hit
D-backs outfielder, who grew up near L.A., waited nine years for moment
LOS ANGELES -- It was just a single to right field in the sixth inning of a game the D-backs were losing 5-0 and would go on to drop 8-0 on Friday night. So some would say it was a meaningless hit.
But it was really much more than that.
It was the first career hit for D-backs outfielder Danny Dorn, who spent nine-plus seasons working his way through the Minor Leagues to earn it, and it came in front of his entire family.
"It just made it extra special to do it with them all here," Dorn said.
Dorn grew up in Diamond Bar, which is about 25 miles east of Dodger Stadium. He was more of an Angels than Dodgers fan.
"I actually worked at Angel Stadium in high school," Dorn said. "I sold ice cream and peanuts and stuff like that."
You could tell where his family members were sitting based on the loud applause.
"It was pretty cool to go up there and play and get my first hit at Dodger Stadium," he said. "I was talking to my wife, it almost felt like I was meant to get it here."
