AFL administrator named Woman Executive of Year

McGrath earns award at Winter Meetings after 22nd season with six-week league

Arizona Fall League senior administrator Joan McGrath was presented the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year Award on Monday at the Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

McGrath was one of five original Arizona Fall League staff members and has been with the league since its inaugural 1992 season.

McGrath has been instrumental in guiding young professionals in all aspects of baseball administration.

McGrath has indicated her intention to retire this month. However, family members and friends concur that McGrath will remain active in mentoring interns and helping the league by providing institutional knowledge, advice and leadership.

In addition to thanking her husband, Joe, for helping cook dinner and tend to the administration of their household for the long days and nights she spent working, McGrath thanked Roland Hemond for his vision and foresight in helping create the six-week "finishing school" for some of baseball's finest prospects.

McGrath also expressed sincere appreciation to AFL executive vice president Steve Cobb and her many colleagues for their great work and support.
