A's acquire Colorado's Drew Pomeranz for Brett Anderson

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A's have acquired left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz and minor league pitcher Chris Jensen from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson and cash, it was announced by the club this evening.

Pomeranz, a former first-round draft choice of the Cleveland Indians out of Ole Miss in 2010 (fifth overall), has fashioned a 4-14 record and 4.77 ERA in 34 career big league appearances, including 30 starts, with the Rockies in 2011, 2012 and 2013. He has struck out 115 batters and walked 70 in 136.2 innings. Colorado obtained the 6-5, 230-pound left-hander in a trade with Cleveland involving Ubaldo Jiminez prior to the 2011 season.

This past season, Pomeranz went 0-4 with a 6.38 ERA in eight games, including four starts, with the Rockies. He fanned 19 batters and walked 19 while allowing 25 hits in 21.2 innings.

Jensen, a right-hander, has posted a 19-12 record and 4.22 ERA in 61 minor league starts. Colorado's sixth-round pick in the 2011 Draft out of the University of San Diego, he recorded a 5-8 mark and 4.55 ERA in 28 starts for Single-A Modesto last season.

Anderson, 25, was the A's 2013 Opening Day starting pitcher but finished the season in the bullpen after spending four months on the disabled list with a stress right foot fracture.   The 6-4, 233-pound southpaw, who originally was acquired by Oakland from Arizona in an eight-player traded in 2007, registered a 1-4 record with three saves and a career-high 6.04 ERA in 16 games, including five starts. His best two seasons thus far were his first two years in the majors, posting an 11-11 mark and 4.06 ERA in 2009 and a 7-6 mark with a 2.80 ERA in 2010.

He appeared in one American League Division Series game this past postseason, allowing one run on one hit in 0.1 innings in Oakland's 8-6 loss in Game 4 at Detroit. Anderson joins the Rockies with a 26-28 record and 3.81 ERA in 84 career games, including 73 starts.
