A's acquire Jesse Chavez from Toronto

The Oakland A's acquired right-handed pitcher Jesse Chavez from the Toronto Blue Jays organization in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced today. There are now 40 players on the A's 40-man roster.

Chavez was 1-1 with an 8.44 ERA in nine games, two starts, in three stints with Toronto this season. He was selected from Triple-A Las Vegas May 27 and appeared in one game before he was optioned back to Las Vegas June 5. He was recalled June 19 for his second stint and was 0-1 with a 9.98 ERA in seven games, two starts, before he was optioned July 14. Chavez was recalled for a third stint August 4 and earned the win in relief that day against Oakland before he was optioned August 6. Chavez was also 8-5 with a 3.98 ERA in 19 games, 17 starts, with Las Vegas. He is 7-11 with a 5.74 ERA in 152 career appearances, two starts, in five seasons in the majors with Pittsburgh (2008-09), Atlanta (2010), Kansas City (2010-11) and Toronto (2012).
