A's claim outfielder Brown off waivers from Mets

OAKLAND -- The A's made a pair of moves on Friday, claiming outfielder Andrew Brown off waivers from the Mets and adding Triple-A infielder Tyler Ladendorf to their 40-man roster.

Brown was on the Mets' Opening Day roster and logged 49 plate appearances spanning two stints in New York, batting .182 with two home runs and seven RBIs. He has consistently showcased a good dose of power at the Triple-A level, surely an appealing quality to the A's, and most recently compiled 21 homers and 69 RBIs in 103 games for Triple-A Las Vegas this year.

The 30-year-old right-handed hitter, originally an 18th-round pick by St. Louis in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, has seen action in parts of four big league seasons between the Mets, Rockies and Cardinals, bringing a .220/.281/.390 career line to his newest organization.

Ladendorf, meanwhile, presents an intriguing middle-infield option next year for an A's club that's weak in this area -- particularly if free agent shortstop Jed Lowrie lands elsewhere.

Acquired from the Twins in 2009 for Orlando Cabrera, the 26-year-old Ladendorf enjoyed a productive 2014 season at Triple-A, hitting .297 with a .376 on-base percentage in 318 plate appearances from the right side. He split his time between second base and shortstop and will likely be given a lengthy look at both positions in Spring Training.
