A's drop early replay challenge at third base
OAKLAND -- A's manager Bob Melvin used up his challenge just one out into the bottom of the first inning Tuesday.
Outfielder Coco Crisp led off the frame with a double against Detroit righty Max Scherzer and was called out on a stolen-base attempt at third base, prompting Melvin out of the dugout for a review.
The call was confirmed by crew chief Jerry Meals moments later, and Melvin fell to 4-for-11 in challenges this year.
It was just the second time in 10 attempts Crisp has been caught stealing.
