Reddick misses out on repeat Gold Glove win

A's right fielder bested by Boston's Victorino; Gordon selected over Cespedes

OAKLAND -- Reigning Gold Glove Award winner Josh Reddick was denied another one, with Boston's Shane Victorino taking home the 2013 award in right field, as announced on ESPN2 on Tuesday evening.

A's teammate Yoenis Cespedes, who was also a finalist for the award for his defensive work in left field, did not win, either. That honor belonged to Kansas City's Alex Gordon, who has won it three straight years.

In the past, the Gold Glove Awards were voted on only by managers and coaches. This year, however, Rawlings opted to collaborate with the Society for American Baseball Research to formally incorporate sabermetrics into the results.

That presumably played a large role when it came down to Reddick vs. Victorino. Boston's outfielder racked up 24 defensive runs saved, compared to Reddick's 13, and also led in ultimate zone rating with a 25 mark. Reddick finished with a 16.4 rating.
