A's ready to open Lew Wolff Training Complex

MESA, Ariz. -- The A's have named their new Minor League training facility after co-owner Lew Wolff, who was a guiding force in its renovation effort.

The Lew Wolff Training Complex at Fitch Park is considered the sister facility to Hohokam Stadium, where the A's will begin playing their Cactus League games this season. The facilities received a combined $26.9 million in renovations.

Under the leadership of Wolff, the A's owner and managing partner since 2005, the multi-venue renovation was completed in time for the club's first Spring Training workout of 2015, which is set for Friday.

The Lew Wolff Training Complex at Fitch Park will serve as the year-round home of the A's Minor League training and player development operations, as well as a host to the organization's Rookie-level Arizona League club.

The renovations include expanded player therapy and strength training areas, and a complete rebuild of the fields, batting cages and pitching mounds. More than 25,000 square feet were added to the main building, bringing the total square footage of the building to nearly 56,000.

Hohokam Stadium received significant upgrades as well. Oakland's new Spring Training home features the largest video board in the Cactus League, and the home clubhouse, kitchen and weight room were all expanded to complete the state-of-the-art project.

Fans are encouraged to watch the A's work out at the complex free of charge beginning on Friday. The A's open their Cactus League schedule at Hohokam Stadium on March 3 against the Giants.
