A's select righty Trivino to kick off Day 3 of Draft

Lou Trivino went 7-5 with a 1.83 ERA in his junior year at Division II Slippery Rock, striking out 92 batters and walking just 18. He finished the season having thrown 83 2/3 innings, with eight of his outings going for complete games.

The A's drafted Trivino with their 11th-round pick on Saturday to start off their selections for Day 3 of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound right-hander has an active fastball, cutter, changeup, slider and curveball in his arsenal.

He threw three straight shutouts during his 2013 campaign -- five total -- and also threw a no-hitter. He posted quality starts in 11 of his 12 outings.

The first-team All-PSAC West honoree leaves Slippery Rock as the holder of the school record in career strikeouts and single-season strikeouts, with 227 and 92, respectively.
