A's successfully challenge hit-by-pitch call

HOUSTON -- A's manager Bob Melvin won a ninth-inning challenge on a hit-by-pitch call with Brandon Moss at the plate, which factored in Oakland scoring its only run of a 5-1 loss to the Astros.

With two outs in the inning, Moss took a Collin McHugh pitch to his back foot that home-plate umpire Paul Emmel simply deemed a ball. With Moss repeatedly telling Emmel he was actually hit, Melvin came out of the A's dugout to challenge the call.

After a review, the ruling was overturned, allowing Moss to take his base. Moss then stole second base and proceeded to score on Alberto Callaspo's ensuing base hit that knocked McHugh out of the game, spoiling his shutout bid.
