Astros to host Legends Weekend August 1-3

Weekend to include Legends autograph signing and special giveaways

HOUSTON, TX - This weekend, the Astros will be hosting the Astros Legends Weekend celebration from August 1-3 as the team takes on the Toronto Blue Jays in a four-game set to finish out the current 10-day, 10-game homestand. The Astros organization will be honoring many alumni who played integral roles in the franchise's storied history with special autograph signings and themed giveaways.

Thursday, July 31- 7:10 p.m. vs. Toronto

Prior to Legends Weekend, the Astros kick off a four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday at 7:10 p.m.

Before Thursday's first pitch, former Astros pitching legend and current Advisor to the President Larry Dierker will present 2014 All-Star Jose Altuve with the MLBPAA's Heart and Hustle Award. This award honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and tradition of the game. The Heart and Hustle Award is also the only award in MLB that is voted on by former players.

In honor of the Astros' guests from north of the border, a Poutine-inspired dish will be introduced in the Street Eats concession stand on the Main Concourse (section 124). It will be a "Texas Poutine," featuring shoe string fries and a smoked chipotle gravy, smothered in mushrooms, pico and cheese and topped with green onions.

Every Thursday home game this season is a Dollar Hot Dog Thursday, where fans can purchase an unlimited number of Nolan Ryan Beef hot dogs at $1 each while supplies last (limit of four per person per concession visit).

Friday, August 1- 7:10 p.m. vs. Toronto

On Friday, August 1, the Astros will kick off their annual Astros Legends Weekend celebration. The weekend will be chock-full of giveaways, starting with Friday's Lance Berkman bobblehead giveaway for 10,000 fans, presented by Houston Methodist.

On this week's Big and Bright Friday Night, a "classic Disney" themed Friday Night Fireworks display, presented by Marathon Oil Corporation, will follow the conclusion of the 7:10 p.m. contest.

Prior to Friday's first pitch, nine Houston Area Folds of Honor Foundation scholarship recipients will be honored on the field as a part of Budweiser and Silver Eagle Distributor's ongoing efforts to raise awareness for this worthy cause. The Folds of Honor Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the families of America's fallen and disabled heroes that have defended our country's freedom.

Every Friday from 4:30-6:00pm is St. Arnold Happy Hour, featuring $5, 12-ounce beers at the St. Arnold's Bar in left field.

Also on Fridays, the Budweiser Patio serves Budweiser Day Fresh Draught, kegged and delivered the same day.

 

Saturday, August 2- 6:10 p.m. vs. Toronto

The Astros Legends Weekend celebration continues on Saturday with a Legends autograph session, taking place on the Main Concourse behind the Insperity Club prior to the 6:10 p.m. contest. The autograph session is free of charge, and alumni are subject to change. The schedule for the autograph signing is as follows:

Prior to the signings, Astros alumni will be available to the media in the Depot at 4:30 p.m. To access the Depot, media should enter normally and then walk through the Club Level, through the double doors and onto the catwalk which will go directly to the Depot in Union Station. Union Station Lobby will be in use for another event and will not be available as a way to access the Depot.

Saturday's Legends-themed giveaway is an Andy Pettitte Jersey for 10,000 fans, presented by Waste Management.

Prior to the contest with the Blue Jays, Houston native and Astros starting pitcher Jarred Cosart will be signing autographs at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store in Pearland located at 2804 Business Center Dr., Pearland, TX 77584 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

The Houston Astros are hosting families from the Sunshine Kids for their second meet and greet of the season with Astros players and coaches. The meet and greet will be held in the press conference room following Astros batting practice.

Additionally, the Astros will be honoring the two national finalists in Major League Baseball's Pitch, Hit & Run Program, presented by Scotts. Gabriella Emeana of Copperas Cove, Texas and Casey Harp of Pipe Creek, Texas placed in the top three of their age group nationally and were invited to participate in the national competition held at Target Field prior to the 2014 Home Run Derby. Gabriella was crowned the national champion of her age group.

Sunday, August 3- 1:10 p.m. vs. Toronto

Astros Legends Weekend wraps up on Sunday with a Roy Oswalt bobblehead giveaway for 10,000 fans as the Astros take on the Blue Jays for the final time this season at 1:10 p.m.
