Baltimore's Machado disciplined

Oakland's Abad receives undisclosed fine

Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has received a five-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing his bat on the field during the bottom of the eighth inning of his Club's game against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

In addition, A's pitcher Fernando Abad has received an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Machado in the eighth inning.

Unless appealed, Machado's suspension is scheduled to begin tonight, when the Orioles are to continue hosting the Boston Red Sox. If appealed, Machado's suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
