Baseball 101: A Beginner's Guide to Watching & Enjoying Live Baseball takes place on Saturday May 16

Texas Rangers to offer free session prior to Indians game at Globe Life Park in Arlington

Do you enjoy socializing at baseball games with friends, but don't really know what is happening out on the field? Have you ever wondered which numbers on the scoreboard actually indicate which team is winning? Have you ever asked if there is a halftime in baseball? Do you want to understand more about what goes on during a baseball game? Then this class is for you!

The Texas Rangers will conduct BASEBALL 101: A Beginner's Guide to Watching & Enjoying Live Baseball on Saturday, May 16 from 5:45 -6:45 p.m. at Globe Life Park in Arlington. The class is free to all fans holding a ticket to that night's 7:05 p.m. game with between the Rangers and Cleveland Indians.

The session is designed to teach new and casual fans the very basic concepts of baseball so that they can better enjoy watching Rangers games. Taught by passionate fans from the Rangers front office, Baseball 101 includes a 45-minute classroom style lecture. There will also be a 15-minute Question & Answer session with Rangers President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jon Daniels at the end of the class.

The topics to be covered will include:

  • The Team (positions, the roster, manager & coaches, the lineup)
  • The Ballpark (field terminology, how to read the scoreboard, other ballpark highlights including concessions)
  • The Game (innings, balls & strikes, outs, hits, game strategy, how to read the umpire's signs, intro to stats)
  • The Season (spring training, game schedules, game series, home stands, win percentage, post season)
  • Resources (where to find game broadcasts, MLB.com At Bat App, ticket specials at texasrangers.com)

BASEBALL 101: A Beginner's Guide to Watching & Enjoying Live Baseball will take place in Hall of Fame Theater at Globe Life Park in Arlington. To register when purchasing tickets, simply enter the code BASEBALL101 at texasrangers.com/baseball101. Fans already holding tickets to the May 16 game should register by emailing [email protected]. The event is open to all fans holding tickets to the May 16 game on a first come, first served basis.
