Hall to celebrate anniversary with numerous events

The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2014 with four weekend events in recognition of its formal opening in 1939.

The events, which will take place throughout the summer of 2014, are as follows:

Hall of Fame Classic/BASE Race (May 23-25), which will honor baseball legends of past and present with the sixth annual Hall of Fame Classic, presented by Ford Motor Company, over Memorial Day weekend. The event will consist of the Legends Game at Doubleday Field, a Main Street Parade, the second annual "Night at the Museum," a youth clinic and golf fund-raiser.

75th Anniversary Birthday and Member Celebration (June 12-14) commemorating the Hall's formal opening on June 12, 1939. Special guests and programs will take place throughout the weekend.

Hall of Fame Weekend (July 25-28), the annual induction celebration on July 27 at the Clark Sports Center.

The 75th Anniversary Celebration Concert (Aug. 2) featuring music artists, film and TV celebrities and baseball heroes at the Clark Sports Center. Acts are scheduled to include the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and former big leaguer turned singer/songwriter Bernie Williams. A full lineup will be announced at a later date.

Along with the four events, two commemorative keepsakes also will be available in 2014.

The Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin, authorized by Congress and the president, will be produced by the U.S. Mint in 2014. A surcharge included in the price of each coin will benefit the Museum's educational outreach.

The Hall also will produce, in conjunction with Little, Brown publishing, "The Hall: A Celebration of Baseball's Greats," the official book of the 75th anniversary of the Museum.
