Best MLB In-Game Promotions of 2013

Aside from giveaways (which Mina Park wrote about here), in-game promotions can help build attendance and create a memorable fan experience at the game. Here are four of the best in-game promotions for the 2013 MLB season.

Buy me some Peanuts and Cracker Jacks: Many ballparks have implemented a peanut-controlled section during specific games. Some teams, including the Washington Nationals and Toronto Blue Jays, have taken the lead in 2013, doubling the number of games with peanut-controlled seating this year. This promotion enables individuals who may have previously not attended due to allergies to be able to enjoy the game live.

Perfect Pitch: In 2013, several teams will host stadium concerts featuring a variety of musical artists. Among others, Jason Aldean will play at Fenway Park, Big & Rich will perform at Angel Stadium and Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake will bring their act to multiple parks, including Yankee Stadium. These concerts blur the lines between pop culture, music and baseball, engaging a new audience.

The Dog Days of Summer: Nearly every stadium has a game or two throughout the season that allows furry friends to attend. Fans that purchase a ticket are seated in a special section and are invited to bring their dogs to the park and help cheer on their team. This promotion allows fans who may not want to leave their dog alone, or those who want another pal to cheer along with, to attend the game.

Look, Ma, No Hands!: There’s not a team out there that doesn’t want to attract a younger crowd, and that is why the Kids Run the Bases initiative (typically after Saturday or Sunday games) is so successful. Fans benefit as they are able to see the delight in their child’s faces as they run around each base just like the pros. In addition, teams are able to get families to attend while targeting younger fans who will hopefully remain a fan for years to come.
