Blake Doyle's focus on twin brother Brian

DENVER -- Rockies hitting coach Blake Doyle's thoughts and emotions this weekend will be with his twin brother, former Yankees standout Brian Doyle, who will be participating in two legends classics and raising money for an important cause.

Brian Doyle, fondly remembered for his starring role as the second baseman with the Yankees' 1978 World Series championship team, will participate in Old Timer's Day at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, and will join a Yankees Legend event put on by Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Yankees' affiliate.

For the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre event, a portion of the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to benefit the National Parkinson's Foundation. Brian Doyle has announced that he is battling Parkinson's Disease.

"Brian's quite a grinder," Blake Doyle said. "He's beat leukemia and now he's dealing with Parkinson's. He's something else."

Blake, Brian and their brother, former Major Leaguer Denny Doyle, have spent their lives in baseball as players and coaches at all levels. Brian left the coaching business in recent years to work in the ministry. They're staying close through Brian's difficult time, Blake said.

"I sent a video message that they're going to play on Sunday," Blake Doyle said. "Brian has affected, with this game of baseball and his ministry, hundreds of thousands of lives and given God the glory. I said, 'Hey, Brian, let God give you just a little bit of that glory back with the legends, the Yankee organization and the fans that are going to be there.'

"I know that's going to be difficult, but he needs to get this one right."
