Pillar, Martin, Buehrle finalists for Gold Glove

Blue Jays center fielder Kevin Pillar, catcher Russell Martin and pitcher Mark Buehrle have been named finalists for the 2015 Rawlings American League Gold Glove Award.

Pillar is competing against the Rays' Kevin Kiermaier and the Angels' Mike Trout, while Martin is challenged by the Astros' Jason Castro and the Royals' Salvador Perez. Buehrle, who is a four-time winner, is up against the Astros' Dallas Keuchel and the A's Sonny Gray. Winners will be announced on Nov. 10.

In his first full season in the Majors, Pillar emerged as an elite defender for Toronto to earn a spot in its powerful lineup. His spectacular diving grabs became seemingly routine. He finished with 14 defensive runs saved in center field, third most in the AL behind Kiermaier, who led the Majors with 42, and Kansas City's Lorenzo Cain, 18.

Martin last won the award in 2007 while playing for the Dodgers, and he has been a steady presence behind the plate since -- one of the large reasons the Blue Jays signed him this past offseason. Martin threw out 32 of 72 potential basestealers, a career-high 44 percent success rate. He also helped guide the Blue Jays' pitching staff to a strong second half of the season helping the franchise to its first playoff berth since 1993.

Buehrle took home the award in four consecutive seasons before joining Toronto: 2009-11 with the White Sox, and '12 with the Marlins. In his age-36 season, the left-hander logged 198 2/3 innings over 32 starts, posting a 3.81 ERA and 15-8 record. Buehrle picked off three baserunners and did not allow a stolen base, catching two attempted steals.
