Blue Jays reportedly extend LaCava

Tony LaCava, the Blue Jays' interim general manager since the resignation of Alex Anthopoulos following the postseason, has reportedly been signed to a long-term contract extension by the Toronto club.

The Blue Jays have not confirmed the extension.

"I'm not going to comment on any contact of mine. I think that's the best way to move forward with it," LaCava said. "I want to be here. I want to stay as long as I can, and as long as they'll have me."

FOX Sports, which had the first of multiple reports on the development, noted that the extension would be given whether or not "interim" is eventually removed from LaCava's title.

About an hour prior to reports of the contract extension, LaCava had told reporters at the General Managers Meetings in Boca Raton, Fla., that he was very comfortable with his role under club president Mark Shapiro.

"Again, it's interim, and hopefully we can take some steps here and make the club better and we'll see where it leads," LaCava said. "I don't feel I'm auditioning. I've known Mark a long time. He knows me and I know him. I'm about whoever he feels is best to lead going forward, I'm in. I accept it."
