Challenge leads to fan interference call

TORONTO -- Blue Jays manager John Gibbons successfully challenged for fan interference in the top of the ninth inning in what ended as a 3-1 victory on Friday night against the Cardinals.

With one out and Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen in to pitch, Tony Cruz sent a high fly ball into foul territory.

Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista tracked the ball toward the stands about halfway down the line, and he seemed to have a clear angle to make the out.

But the outstretched hand of a young fan collided with Bautista's glove, allowing the ball to drop to the ground -- the play was ruled a foul ball.

After a review of one minute, 43 seconds, the call was overturned, and Cruz was ruled out. Janssen went on to retire Matt Carpenter to secure the win for the Blue Jays.
