Overturned call ends second inning
BOSTON --- The Red Sox ended a potentially disastrous inning thanks to a good throw by Christian Vazquez and instant replay.
In the second inning, the Rays had already scored to tie the game at 1-1. Ben Zobrist singled in Ryan Hanigan, and Kevin Kiermaier went to third. Zobrist then tried to steal second and initially, was ruled safe on the head-first slide with David DeJesus at the plate.
But Red Sox manager John Farrell challenged the play and the call was overturned.
Boston is 19-16 in challenges this season.
