Side tightness forces Crawford to leave game

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants All-Star shortstop Brandon Crawford was pulled after the seventh inning of Tuesday's 8-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs with tightness in his left side.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Crawford felt his side tighten up on him after he struck out swinging to end a 12-pitch at-bat against Cubs starter Jake Arrieta.

"I had to take Crawford out," Bochy said. "His left side tightened up on him. The last swing he took in that long at-bat, it tightened up quite a bit. It wasn't worth the risk to keep playing."

The Giants skipper added he considers Crawford day to day.

"There's a little tightness," Crawford said after the game. "I didn't want to risk any further injury. We'll see how it feels tomorrow."
