Nimmo leads the way in Double-A postseason win

Outfielder Brandon Nimmo, the Mets' No. 3 prospect, collected two hits and drove in two runs Tuesday to lead Double-A Binghamton to a 5-2 victory against Richmond in Game 1 of the Eastern League championship series.

Nimmo drove in Binghamton's first and last runs of the game with a pair of two-out RBI singles. He singled off Richmond starter Clayton Blackburn, the Giants' No. 7 prospect, in the second inning to give Binghamton an early lead. He also tacked on an insurance run in the eighth with another RBI single off Giants No. 1 prospect Kyle Crick.

Nimmo finished the night 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a defensive assist, doubling a runner off first base to complete a double play in the second inning. In six playoff games, he is hitting .370/.414/.481 with six runs and three RBIs.

Nimmo, ranked No. 62 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, began the season with Class A Advanced St. Lucie, earning a promotion to Binghamton after an All-Star first half. Between the two levels, the 21-year-old hit .278/.394/.426 with 10 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 127 regular-season games.

Binghamton will continue its quest for its first Eastern League title since 1994 Wednesday when the best-of-five series continues with Game 2 at Richmond. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET. After a travel day, the series shifts to Binghamton on Friday for Game 3.
