Braves Agree to Terms with Eric Young Jr. on Minor League Contract
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves have agreed to terms with free-agent outfielder Eric Young Jr. on a one-year minor league contract for the 2015 season with an invitation to Major League spring training. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.
Young, the 2013 National League stolen base leader with 46, batted .229 (64-for-280) with 16 extra-base hits, including five triples, while registering 30 stolen bases in 100 games with the New York Mets in 2014. Defensively, the outfielder played in 73 games between left and center fields and committed just one error in 130 total chances.
Spanning the 2013 and 2014 seasons, Young logged 76 stolen bases, while being caught just 11 times for an 81.7 percentage success rate, the 13th-highest mark in the Majors and the third-highest mark among National Leaguers.
Young, a career .252 hitter, joins his third Major League club since his debut in 2009 with the Colorado Rockies. He owns 80 career extra-base hits, including 18 triples, and 138 stolen bases over 504 career games.
Young, 29, was originally selected by the Rockies in the 30th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft out of Chandler -Gilbert Community College (AZ).
