Broken foot to sideline Ortiz three months

Reliever Joseph Ortiz suffered a fractured left foot when the foot was run over by a motorcycle in his native Venezuela.

Ortiz, 23, underwent surgery on Friday morning and will be out for three months. He was a candidate for the 2014 bullpen as a potential left-handed specialist.

In 32 games for the Rangers last season, Ortiz went 2-2 with 4.32 ERA, 27 strikeouts and 10 walks over 44 2/3 innings. Left-handed hitters posted a .257 average against him. He was signed by the Rangers as an undrafted free agent in 2008 and had made 184 Minor League appearances, all out of the bullpen, before his Major League debut.
